A look at two major Turn of the Century art styles: Art Nouveau and Art Deco.

The transition from the 19th to the 20th centuries brought with it a brave new world: new ideas, new technologies, new ways of being. With it came new kinds of art. Bookending the Turn of the Century, Art Nouveau and Art Deco are brave new styles of art for this brave new world.


Fiona Finnigan earned her Masters Degree in History of Visual and Material Culture ( the history of stuff!) from Southern Illinois University in 2018. Her specialty is Turn of the Century decorative arts. She has presented on 19th century art history at the International Steampunk Symposium in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2018 and 2019. In her free time, she enjoys shiny things, working on her steampunk gear, and every kind of needlework known to mankind.
