Frequently Asked Questions

What is Steampunk?

While the name Steampunk was coined in the late 1980’s, the genre itself dates back to the actual 1800’s with the imaginations of authors such as Jules Verne and HG Wells, and today we have fun and folly with a vision of a future that neverwas. In many ways Steampunk is an “open source” fandom without a singular authority defining or controlling its definition. Overbrimming with creativity, Steampunk is more about what you make it.

Do I have to dress up to attend the Exposition?

There are no requirements to costume at the Chicago Steampunk Exposition; the main thing is to be there and to have fun with all the various things that the convention has to offer. If you do decide later to dress more in Steampunk fashion, there will be plenty of workshops on how to create your own look, and of course many great vendors with clothing and accessories.

Can children attend?

The Exposition is a family friendly event, and a variety of all ages programming is scheduled for the daytime.

On the schedule we label sessions as either: All Ages, 13+, 18+, and 21+ depending upon the content of the presentation.

How much is parking?

Self parking in the Hyatt Regency Schaumburg lot is free.

What safety precautions is the Exposition taking?
