This FAQ is intended to serve as a brief introduction to those that may need ADA/Special Accommodations at the hotel and/or convention.

This is the convention’s first year in creating an FAQ for ADA/Special Accommodations, so please bear with us as we work out details. As staff, we are committed to do our best to provide any assistance to meet your accommodation needs. This convention will continue to strive to improve our awareness to make this the best and most memorable experience for all that attend.

We ask that you read all of the information first before sending any follow up questions and/or requests. Thank you!

HOTEL REGISTRATION

Q: Where is the closest accessible door for hotel registration?
A: The push button entrance/exit is located at the front of the hotel.

Q: What should I do if I am arriving with a personal vehicle?
A: First proceed to the hotel’s circle drive located at the front of the building to check-in and drop off luggage. Once finished, proceed with parking your car at one of the hotel’s accessible parking spots. 


HOTEL ENTRANCES/EXITS

Q: Where are the accessible doors to the hotel?
A: The push button entrance/exit is located at the front of the hotel. The sliding door entrance/exit is located at the back of the hotel.

Q: What is the sidewalk outside of the hotel’s entrances/exits like?
A: The sidewalk extends around the majority of the hotel and was built to the width specifications of ADA regulations.


HOTEL PARKING

Q: Where is the accessible parking located at the hotel?
A: Primary accessible parking is located at the front, back and west side of the hotel.

Q: Are these parking spots located next to/near an accessible door?
A: Yes


HOTEL ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE ACCOMMODATIONS

Q: How can I get my belongings to/from my room?
A: There are hotel luggage carts available for use.

Q: How can I get my belongings delivered to my room if I am unable to do that myself?
A: There are hotel staff to assist with bringing luggage cart(s) to your room if needed. Please ask the front desk for assistance. This is a free service provided by the hotel.

Q: How can I get my belongings brought downstairs when I’m checking out?
A: Please call the front desk and request assistance from a staff member to bring your luggage downstairs.

Q: Can I request this service in advance?
A: We recommend calling the hotel just prior to your arrival.

HOTEL ROOM ACCOMMODATIONS

Q: Are there rooms that have ADA/Accessible Accommodations?
A: Yes.

DEVICE AVAILABILITY

Q: Are there any mobility devices for use?
A: The hotel has one wheelchair available to assist hotel guests, which is located at the front desk.

Q: What if I am unable to bring my personal mobility device due to where I’m traveling from and/or how I’m traveling?A: Please contact conops@chicagosteampunkexpo.com

NOTE: We kindly ask that if you are able to bring your own mobility device and/or adaptive equipment, that you please do so.  As a convention, we may be limited as to what we have additional access to in order to assist our attendees’ needs during their convention stay.


SERVICE ANIMALS

Q: Does the hotel allow service/emotional support animals?
A: Yes

NOTE: Pet owners will need to bring their own waste bags for picking up after their animal and disposing of it in a proper waste receptacle.

Q: What is needed for this process?
A: Service papers are REQUIRED and MUST be presented at the time of check-in.

Q: Does this require requesting a special room?
A: No

Q: Where is my service animal allowed to go to the bathroom?
A: Please use the grassy area located by the east entrance/exit near the Mahogany Ballroom. 

Q: Is the east entrance/exit an accessible door?
A: No. You’ll have to use the back entrance/exit to make your way to the east side of the hotel using the accessible sidewalk.

Q: Where do I dispose of my animal’s waste bag?
A: There are garbage cans located around the outside of the hotel’s entrances/exits for disposal needs.


MAIN HOTEL BATHROOMS

Q: Are there accessible bathrooms at the hotel?
A: Yes. They are two located on the main floor and one on the lower-level convention portion of the hotel.

Q: Is there an accessible button to open the bathroom door?
A: No. However the hotel has permitted the convention to prop the main entrance doors open for easier entering/exiting of the facilities..

Q: Are there accessibility differences to these bathrooms?
A: Yes. Please see the listed differences below.

Main Floor

1) The bathroom located across from the Mahogany Exhibitor Hall:

  • There is a hand washing station located inside the accessible stall.
  • Once inside the bathroom, the pathway to get to the accessible stall is about 3 feet wide
  • The baby changing station is located in the main portion of the bathroom.

2) Bathrooms located near the Tea Room and Artist Alley:

  • The pathway to get to the bathroom is about 3 ½ feet wide
  • Once you enter the bathroom, there will be a sharp turn to access main portion of the bathroom
  • The baby changing station is located inside the accessible stall.

SPECIAL NOTE: The bathrooms located around the corner from the main elevators are NOT accessible friendly.

Lower-Level

The bathroom located across from the Sienna Meeting Rooms are accessible, but do NOT have a baby changing station within the facilities.

CONVENTION LOWER LEVEL 

Q: Is there an elevator to access the convention lower level?
A: Yes. Elevator Car #3 will take you to the Convention Lower Level.

Q: What is the size of this elevator?
A: The main lobby elevators are 4 feet deep and 6 feet wide.

Q: How do the main elevators work from the lobby level?
A: From the main lobby, push the elevator’s down button. This will call Car #3 which will take you to the lower level.

Q: How do the main elevators work from the upper hotel room levels?
A: Only Car #3 will take you directly to the basement, however there is not a way to call that specific elevator car from upper hotel floors. Should Car #1 or #2 arrive, take it to the Main Lobby and exit that Car. Then proceed with pushing the elevator down button to call Car #3.

Q: Is there anything else located on the Convention Lower Level?
A: Yes.

1. Indoor Pool

  • The locker room and pool are both accessible
  • Then entire pool is 4 feet deep
  • There are only ladders to get into the pool (no stairs/steps)
  • There is an accessible lift to get into the pool

2. Fitness Center

  • There are steps to get into the room
  • The accessible entrance must be accessed through the pool area

VENDOR AND PANEL ROOMS

Q: What are the panel rooms like?
A: Panel rooms vary in size pending the programs that are taking place.

NOTE: Rooms that have presenters will not have microphones. If you have a personal amplifier device, it might be helpful to bring.

Q: How easy will it be to move around the vendor room?
A: We will do our best not to tape cords in the pathways, but pending the needs of vendors and where things need to be connected we cannot guarantee unfortunately.

NOTE: If you run into issues navigating this room, please let us know.  We will do our best to find a way to assist you in this need.

Q: Are there any stages at your convention?
A: Yes. We are looking into what options there are, such as ramps, to access the stage.

Q: What if I have questions about possible accommodations that I may need for panel rooms?

GAMING LOWER LEVEL

Q: Is there elevator access to the gaming lower level?
A: Yes. This elevator is located on the West side of the hotel.

Q: How do you locate the West elevator?
A: The elevator is accessible between the 3rd floor hotel rooms, mid-level second floor and first floor.

Q: Is this elevator a different size than the ones in the main lobby?
A: Yes. The entrance into this elevator is roughly 3 feet across and the inside is roughly 5 foot by 5 foot.

Q: Is there anything else located on the Convention Lower Level?
A: Yes. 

  1. Courtyard (if open in time for the convention)
  • The accessible entrance/exit is is located between hotel rooms 1230 and 1231

PAVILION-BALLROOM

Q: How do you get to the Pavilion?
A: Proceed to the back entrance/exit of the hotel. Then follow the sidewalk down and around the bend until you reach the entrance of the Pavilion.

Q: Are the Pavilion doors accessible?
A: No. However there will be staff working at the doors of the Pavilion to assist with getting in and out of the venue.

Q: Are there bathrooms located inside the Pavilion?
A: No. You will need to exit the pavilion and proceed up the hotel sidewalk into the hotel. Once inside the sliding doors, turn left and proceed down the hall to access the bathrooms across from the Mahogany Exhibitor Hall.

FOOD OPTIONS

Q: Is there food available within the hotel?
A: Yes.  Please understand things are always subject to change.

  • Restaurant: The Market Bowl

Monday-Friday 6am-10am

Saturday-Sunday 7am-11am

  • The Market

Monday – Friday 6am-8pm

Saturday & Sunday 6:30am-8pm

  • Bar: Gallagher Lounge

Daily 3:30pm-11:30pm

Q: Can I order food to my room?
A: Yes. Room Service is available from 6:00am – 9:00pm.

Q: What amenities are available in the hotel room?
A: All rooms have a chiller fridge and coffee maker.

NOTE: There is a microwave located on each floor for public use. 

Q: Are there any additional food options?
A: There are two restaurants located on either side of the hotel, which will require use of the hotel’s front exit/entrance to access them.

AROUND THE VILLAGE OF SCHAUMBURG

Q: Is there a hotel shuttle?
A: Yes. The shuttle is based upon availability and can be scheduled at the Front Desk. The shuttle can hold a maximum of 15 guests and will shuttle within a 3-mile radius only. If you do have a need for the shuttle and know the information in advance, please let the front desk know and they will check availability and reserve it for you.

Q: Is the hotel shuttle accessible?
A: No. There is not a wheelchair lift to get inside.

Q: Is there any other transportation available?
A: Yes. There is a free trolley that travels around various points within Schaumburg.

Q: Is the trolley accessible?
A: No. There is not a wheelchair lift to get inside.

ADDITIONAL CONVENTION INFORMATION

Q: What if I find that I need additional assistance or notice an ADA/accessible issue that was not addressed at the time of the convention?
A: Please speak with staff at the convention registration desk or you can find Con Operations located on the mid-level second floor using the West elevator.

Q: What is the flooring inside the hotel?
A: The majority of the flooring inside the hotel is indoor carpeting.

Q: What if I find myself getting tired getting around the convention?
A: There is plenty of seating and couches located throughout the Main Level and Lower Level of the hotel.

NOTE: There isn’t seating in the hallways in the West Side of the hotel because this whole area is hotel rooms.

Q: What if I find myself getting thirsty getting around the convention?
A: 1. There are water stations inside each of the meeting rooms of the convection.  

  1. There are refreshments available for purchase at the main lobby’s market and bar. 
  2. There are vending machines located on various levels of the hotel for purchase.

Q: Is the smoking area an accessible location?
A: Yes..
